The Kitchen is a room. "Morning light pours through the window. The coffee maker gurgles. A newspaper sits on the table."
The coffee maker is in the Kitchen. "Nearly done. The pot is three quarters full of something dark and good."
The eggs are in the Kitchen. "Two brown eggs on the counter."
The pan is in the Kitchen. "A cast iron skillet, seasoned over many years."
The mug is in the Kitchen. "A large ceramic mug. Slightly chipped. Your favourite."
Instead of taking the coffee maker:
say "It's bolted to the counter by the weight of morning habit."
Instead of putting the eggs in the pan:
say "The eggs sizzle. The kitchen fills with the smell of butter and possibility."
Instead of taking the mug:
say "You wrap both hands around it. It's warm. For a moment, everything is the right size."
